Over 10 Chinese Companies Added to US Department of Defense List as Military-Civilian Integration Enterprises
The US Department of Defense (pictured) has added over ten Chinese companies to the list.
On Wednesday (January 31), the United States Department of Defense added several Chinese companies to the list of China's military-civil fusion enterprises. The Pentagon has published the new list on its website, which includes companies such as YMTC, a memory chip manufacturer, Megvii, an artificial intelligence company, Hesai, a laser radar manufacturer, and NetPosa, a technology company.
Although being included on the list does not necessarily mean an immediate ban by the United States, it could potentially damage the reputation of the listed companies and serve as a stern warning to American entities and corporations, reminding them of the risks involved in conducting business with these companies. Additionally, this may also increase pressure from the US Treasury Department to impose sanctions on these companies. Furthermore, the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act also prohibits the Department of Defense from entering into contracts with any companies listed in the future years.
The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the United States responded with opposition and condemned this act as an abuse of national power, which goes against America's claims of upholding market competition and fair international trade.
