A 99-year-old woman from British Columbia, Canada recently set three world records in the same age group for the 400-meter freestyle, 50-meter backstroke, and 50-meter breaststroke. Despite this, she considers herself lazy and only swims twice a week without any other training.
Betty Brussel, a native of Holland, completed the 400m freestyle in just 12 minutes and 50 seconds, nearly 4 minutes faster than the previous record holder. She also completed the other two races in under 2 minutes each. According to her, she doesn't think about anything while swimming, she just focuses on maintaining her rhythm and counting laps. As she reaches the final lap, she gives it her all. She openly declares that the pool is her "paradise".
According to Brussels, growing up in a family of twelve during war times, she had to take care of her siblings at a young age and couldn't pursue her own interests. It wasn't until her retirement in 1982 that she began to explore and develop a passion for swimming.
